There will be significant changes to scanning mechanics if the proposed scanning nerfs go through. If the changes were meant to "put scanners in the hands of the specialists", they will certainly do that, but what does that mean exactly? Doesn't it mean that lone wolf players and newer players will now be at an even further disadvantage to squads made up of high SP players, who can afford to devote a single person to spamming scans with multiple scanners, or multiple people running scans?
Anyway, here is how I think the changes will affect gameplay.
1) Gal Logi will become the dedicated scan logi, simply due to the racial bonus (50% more light up time, 25% more scan precision). So if you want to avoid scans, target getting under 21dB. In all likelihood the Duvolle Focused scanner will still be crappy and I doubt anyone will use it.
2) 3x Creodron Flux Scanner on a Gal Logi will become the favored loadout for the scan specialist. This scanner has the widest scan angle (90*), the highest range (200m), a very short scan time (1s, unless these are all changed with snapshot scanning), and an adequate illumination time (12s after the Gal Logi bonus), allowing you to maintain constant scan data by alternating between three scanners, as by the time you need to trigger the first scanner, its cooldown is finished (30s). So if you complained about a dude scanning you through walls/terrain 200m away, that will now actually be true.
3) The Gal Logi will kite the main battle, staying well back and just spamming scans. The closer you are to the main engagement, the greater the likelihood you will miss a flanker due to snapshot scan angles, and with 200m range, you can afford to stand well back. This person will get few WP but may make up for it by being the squad lead - what better way to organize and direct your squad, and drop orbitals exactly when needed, than to hang back and be the intel guy?
4) E-WAR scouts will become spotters. A fully precision-enhanced and range-buffed scout achieves constant passive scan data without the drawbacks of current or future scanners, at the expense of sacrificing HP. Add in a cloak and a short cooldown scanner and you become a spotter, highlighting enemies just long enough for your own squad's scanners to light them up with something better.
Anyway, these are my predictions from someone who's been running scanners since 1.4. I'll have to wait until I see Nyain San doing this in ambushes to know if they've come true :) |

@ BL4CKST4R - As an E-WAR scout spotter you'd carry a scanner yourself. So you see them on your radar then scan them, and your teammates will know to scan that area with Quantum scanners.
@ Aikuch Tomaru - I see what you mean, but I didn't interpret it that way. It said that snapshot scans were implemented to stop 360* spins, which to me suggests that whatever is in your vision cone at time time you press the scan button, becomes your snapshot. I would think that scanned enemies will still pulse on your minimap as they move in real time. Clarification on this would be nice, but we probably won't know until 1.8. |
